DATASHEET ISL1209 FN6109 Rev 4.00 Low Power RTC with Battery Backed SRAM and Event Detection October 17, 2006 The ISL1209 device is a low power real time clock with event Features detect function, timing and crystal compensation, Real Time Clock/Calendar clock/calendar, power fail indicator, periodic or polled alarm, - Tracks Time in Hours, Minutes, and Seconds intelligent battery backup switching and battery-backed user - Day of the Week, Day, Month, and Year SRAM. Security and Event Functions NOTE: The oscillator uses an external, low-cost 32.768kHz crystal. - Tamper detection with Time Stamp The real time clock tracks time with separate registers for hours, minutes, and seconds. The device has calendar registers for date, - Event Detection During Battery Packed or Normal month, year and day of the week. The calendar is accurate through Modes 2099, with automatic leap year correction. - Selectable Event Input Sampling Rates Allows Low Power Operation Ordering Information - Selectable Glitch Filter on Event Input Monitor V TEMP DD PART PART RANGE RANGE PKG. 15 Selectable Frequency Outputs NUMBER* MARKING (V) (C) PACKAGE DWG. Intersil Pb-free products are MSL classified at Pb-free peak reflow temperatures that meet or 2 Bytes Battery-Backed User SRAM exceed the Pb-free requirements of IPC/JEDEC J STD-020. 2 I C Interface - 400kHz Data Transfer Rate Pinout ISL1209 400nA Battery Supply Current (10 LD MSOP) Small Package TOP VIEW - 10 Ld MSOP X1 V 10 1 DD Pb-Free Plus Anneal Available (RoHS Compliant) 9 X2 2 IRQ/F Applications OUT Utility Meters 8 V BAT 3 SCL Set Top Box/Modem 4 GND 7 SDA POS Equipment 5 6 EVIN EVDET Network Routers, Hubs, Switches, Bridges Cellular Infrastructure Equipment Fixed Broadband Wireless Equipment Test Meters/Fixtures Vending Machine Management Security and Anti Tampering Applications - Panel/Enclosure Status - Warranty Reporting - Time Stamping Applications - Patrol/Security Check (Fire or Light Equipment) - Automotive Applications FN6109 Rev 4.00 Page 1 of 25 October 17, 2006ISL1209 Block Diagram SDA SDA Seconds BUFFER 2 I C CONTROL INTERFACE Minutes SCL SCL LOGIC BUFFER Hours Day of Week X1 CRYSTAL RTC Date OSCILLATOR DIVIDER X2 Month V DD Year POR FREQUENCY ALARM OUT CONTROL V REGISTERS TRIP SWITCH USER SRAM IRQ/ INTERNAL V BAT F OUT SUPPLY EVDET EVIN GND Pin Descriptions PIN NUMBER SYMBOL DESCRIPTION 1X1 X1. The X1 pin is the input of an inverting amplifier and is intended to be connected to one pin of an external 32.768kHz quartz crystal. X1 can also be driven directly from a 32.768kHz source. 2X2 X2. The X2 pin is the output of an inverting amplifier and is intended to be connected to one pin of an external 32.768kHz quartz crystal. X2 should be left open when X1 is driven from external source. 3V V This input provides a backup supply voltage to the device. V supplies power to the device in the event that BAT BAT. BAT the V supply fails. This pin should be tied to ground if not used. DD 4GND Ground. 5EVIN Event Input (EVIN). The EVIN is an input pin that is used to detect an externally monitored event. When a high signal is present at the EVIN pin an event is detected. 6 EVDET Event Detect Output, active when EVIN is triggered. Open drain output. 7SDA Serial Data (SDA). SDA is a bidirectional pin used to transfer serial data into and out of the device. It has an open drain output and may be wire ORed with other open drain or open collector outputs. 8SCL Serial Clock (SCL). The SCL input is used to clock all serial data into and out of the device. 9IRQ/F Interrupt Output IRQ, /Frequency Output F Multi-functional pin that can be used as interrupt or frequency OUT OUT. output pin. The function is set via the configuration register. 10 V V Power supply. DD DD. FN6109 Rev 4.00 Page 2 of 25 October 17, 2006
