Purpose of Field Service Kit To create a temporary ESD Protected Area (EPA). An EPA is a working space where electrostatic discharge sensitive devices (ESDS) may be unpacked, handled and packed with the minimum risk of being damaged by static electricity. The Field Service Kit can be used when connection to ground is not possible utilizing equipotential bonding and a common point ground system for connecting ESD control elements including operator, working surface, and equipment. When properly connected, the Field Service Kit mat will share the charge to all connected conductive objects including ESDS when they are placed on the surface. Faulty ESDS which may be required for failure analysis or repair shall be placed in protective packaging prior to removal from the EPA.
